After a damp start the sun broke through and RCG members enjoyed another great circular walk on Friday through the beechwoods that surround Hampden Common. We followed a route that took us down through Hampden Coppice to the crossroads south of the common and then via a permissive path through Keepershill Wood to Seven Ways at Redland End,. The larch plantation here was particularly stunning in the low light. We then followed Grim's Ditch through Barnes Wood to the point were it intriguingly turns 90 degrees towards Hampden House. Huge numbers of pheasants suggest that shoots are now really big business on this estate. Heading south from the church we passed the large pond and possible windmill mound on our return to the common. NBPlease note that the December Walk is now on Friday 16th December - see our Whats On page above for full detail.
